A “Washer” is a thin, small circular or disk plate with a hole in the middle used in between the Nut and Bolt. It is used as a support to the fastener. The washer plays a vital role which distributes the pressure of the nut or bolts when it undergoes vibration or uneven surfaces and prevents it from loosening. Washers are usually available in metal, Plastic, Fibre or Rubber. But the role of rubber or fibre washer is to stop the flow of water from the tap.
Washers are classified into three types, they are
Locking washer: It keeps a tight grip between the nut and bolt by locking it. Spring washer: It acts as a spring in the fastener, which prevents further tightening or loosening of the fastener due to vibrations. Plain washer: It evenly distributes a load and prevents damage to the material being fixed.
